Kim Johnson Burkhalter is a native Kansan, born in Wichita, mother of two adult children Nicole Burkhalter-Reed (David), and Amber Burkhalter. She professes to have the world’s smartest and cutest grandchildren in the world Myles and Bella Reed.

Kim attended Wichita State University where she graduate with her undergraduate degree in social work (1992), furthered her graduate studies at the University of Kansas where she completed her master’s in social work (1995). Then complete her doctorate work in Education Leadership July 2011 at Wichita State University.

As an employee with Wichita Public Schools for 20 plus years, she works daily to be a voice for equity and change. Kim has created, developed, organized and facilitated many Wichita Public Schools’ programs and initiatives Kim designed and develop the District’s Parent and Community Support Office, created the Parent Talk television program and organized and development Wichita Public School’s Cultural Proficiency (diversity) Plan. The plan addressed the education of cultural and racial differences among staff, students, families, community and the like. In her dual role as the Director of Equity/Diversity and Magnet Programs, she currently works to ensure that the District’s diversity and equity goals are met to provide equitable educational access for all Wichita Public Schools Students.

Kim is the owner and operator of Equity and Diversity @Kimberly Johnson Burkhalter LLC, where she works as a Diversity-Equity Educational Consultant. She collaborates and partners with community organizations, businesses, school districts, university and colleges, to assist in the development of diversity-equity strategic plans, facilitate professional development to enhance professional and personal skills, and writes professional development curriculum.
