NATIONAL MAGNET SCHOOL MONTH AND POSTER CONTEST
Magnet Schools of America announces January 2011 as National Magnet Schools Month to highlight and promote magnet schools across the country. We invite all magnet schools to plan special events and activities during January 2011 to celebrate the success of magnet schools, students, and staff.
As part of the celebration, Magnet Schools of America is sponsoring its 5th Annual National Magnet Schools Poster Contest, and invites entries from elementary, middle and secondary magnet schools. Plan to enter this exciting and fun student-based project. The 2011 Theme is:
Building Bright Futures…The Magnet Way!
“The deadline is Friday, January 21, 2011, and winners and the top winning poster will be recognized at the National Conference on Magnet Schools in Indianapolis, IN, May 15-18, 2011”

Project Objective:
To celebrate National Magnet Schools Month, Magnet Schools of America is sponsoring the 2011 Magnet Poster Contest. We encourage all districts to involve their magnet students in this exciting and educational project. MSA is looking forward to receiving many innovative, student-created posters.
Entry Requirements:
Districts or schools entering the poster contest must be paid members of MSA for 2011 by December 31, 2010. NOTE: Districts may submit only one top entry representing each level - elementary, middle, high school. Schools should coordinate with their appropriate district level department(s).
q Each district will determine the posters sent to be judged at the national level.
q Entries will be accepted from the district level completed by individual students only.
q All entries will become the property of MSA and will not be returned.
q Each poster must include the official MSA entry form attached to the back of the poster.
Deadline for Submitting Posters:
Posters must be RECEIVED in the National Office by Friday, January 21, 2011 to be eligible.

Scoring Rubric:
MSA suggests that school-wide and/or district-wide competitions implement the same scoring rubric for the selection of their winners.

Ø Adherence to Specifications: 20 pts
o Poster Board Size: 14 x 22
o Orientation: Portrait
Ø Originality and Organization 25 pts
Ø Use of Color and Design 15 pts
Ø Clear and Concise Message 20 pts
TOTAL POINTS: 100 pts
The following student awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners at each level will presented:
First: Plaque and $100 Second: Plaque and $ 75 Third: Plaque and $ 50
