Mini “Action Research” Grants
for Magnet School Teachers

Overview:

Magnet Schools of America encourages innovation in teaching supported by data and documentation on successful practices at magnet schools.  Our goal is to share these best practices to all of our magnet members throughout the country.

To this end, Magnet Schools of America is seeking innovative ideas for mini “action researchgrants from magnet school teachers. MSA will award up to ten $1,000 mini grants for projects that impact teaching and learning in a magnet class.  Some areas to explore could be (1) new teaching strategies, (2) implementing a major unit or theme, (3) use of new technologies, (4) replicating a research-based program, (5) working with special populations in the magnet class, or (6) a brand new idea. Learning could take place in the classroom or in the field (at a museum for example), and may be interdisciplinary or cross-grade.  Collaborative partnerships are encouraged.

The mini “action research” grant is open to teachers whose schools are paid members of Magnet Schools of America or whose school district has a district-wide membership (all of the district’s magnet schools) in Magnet Schools of America for the school year 2011-2012 by the date the application is due (November 1).

The grant period is January 1 to June 30, 2012.  Applications for the 2011 awards will be available online at www.magnet.edu beginning August 1, 2011. All applications must be submitted via email to "> by November 1, 2011 by 5:00 pm EST.  Winners will be announced by December 15, 2011.
